Shallow Hal (2001) is one of the movies that I can actually watch over and over again without getting bore. It doesn’t have a handsome and beautiful casts like any other typical Hollywood movie. Jack Black played the character of the shallow Hal while the skinny Gwyneth Paltrow played as Rosemary, an obese woman. But the story line has an essence. Something that is so true and close to us as human being, of how we judge someone base on his/her appearance from outside.
Hal (Jack Black) always judges women based on their physical appearance. He only dates beautiful women until he bumps into Tony Robbins, a self-help guru, who then hypnotizes Hal into recognizing only the inner beauty of women. After that, Hal meets the obese Rosemary who looks skinny in his eyes. Their love story goes well until Hal’s friend who is equally shallow undoes the hypnosis. As expected, Hall started to make distance with Rosemary. But it isn’t for long as he realized that he really loves her. Happy ending for sure. Rosemary doesn’t need to lose her weight just to get Hal’s heart back.
